Trustees of Johnson County Unified School District No. 233 are considering putting a $68 million general obligation bond package on the November ballot.
The plan would use the bond proceeds and some funds from a 2007 bond sale to finance a $70.4 million effort to remodel the district’s four high schools to accommodate ninth graders. The district serves the Kansas City suburb of Olathe.
Superintendent Pat All said a grade reconfiguration plan would alleviate overcrowding in the elementary schools. Ninth graders would be moved from junior highs, with six graders moving into the junior highs that would become middle schools.
The school board is expected to set an election date on the proposed bonds at its regular meeting on June 26.
The district’s GO debt is rated Aa3 by Moody’s Investors Service and AA-minus by Standard & Poor’s.
