Museum Bonds Get Nod

Voters in Hot Springs last week approved a $1.2 million bond issue for an improved climate control system at the city’s Mid-America Science Museum by a more than 2-to-1 margin.

Museum director Andy Marquart said the new system will provide more accurate control of humidity and temperature inside the building. The improved conditions will allow the museum to host traveling exhibitions sponsored by the Smithsonian Institution.

The bonds will be supported with revenues from the city’s existing 3% advertising and promotion tax. The museum is owned by the Hot Springs Advertising and Promotion Commission and operated by an independent board.
