Transit Money Allocated

California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger traveled to San Diego Tuesday to give some bond money away for public transportation projects.

At the press conference, he announced the allocation of $136 million authorized by Proposition 1B, the $19.9 billion transportation bond measure voters approved in 2006.

Most of the money announced Tuesday will go to buy buses or improve bus systems, though it includes $36 million to upgrade the 43 San Francisco Bay Area Rapid Transit District train stations.

“By investing in transit projects across the state we can stimulate the economy, reduce traffic congestion, and protect the environment by reducing greenhouse emissions,” Schwarzenegger said at the event.

Proposition 1B included $3.6 billion for public transportation projects.
