Nomination for NYPA

New York Gov. David Paterson last week nominated Eugene L. Nicandri to serve as a member of the Board of Trustees of the New York Power Authority.

Nicandri retired as a judge in St. Lawrence County Court in 2004 after 19 years in the post. Prior to becoming a judge he had served as attorney for the towns of Massena, Brasher, Louisville and Lawrence and for the village of Massena. Nicandri’s was involved in the establishing of a municipal electric district that serves a portion of northern New York.

Nicandri earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Rochester and his J.D. from Albany Law School. He also served in the U.S. Navy as a commissioned officer.

The authority has sold $4.13 billion of bonds since 1998, including $602.4 million last year, according to Thomson Reuters data. NYPA operates 18 power-generating facilities and more than 1,400 circuit miles of transmission lines.

The nomination is subject to Senate confirmation.
