Jobless Claims Up 4,000 To 372,000 in May 24 Week

WASHINGTON — Initial claims for U.S. state unemployment benefits rose 4,000 to 372,000 in the May 24 week, while continuing claims also rose, up 36,000 to 3,104,000 in the May 17 week, the Labor Department reported yesterday.

Compared to the April 12 monthly unemployment report survey week, continuing claims were up 158,000.

Analysts had expected initial jobless claims to rise to 370,000.
