Miami-Dade’s Baum Lauded

The South Florida Chapter of the American Society for Public Administration yesterday named retiring Miami-Dade County finance director Rachel Baum as Public Administrator of the Year.

Baum, who has been with Miami-Dade for 31 years, announced in January that she would like to retire June 30 but now says she has agreed to work to the end of the year if necessary.

“I extended my stay until the end of the calendar year to allow time for the search firm to narrow down the candidates and for the county to select the new finance director,” Baum said in an e-mail Tuesday.

Baum served the county in many positions, including auditor and controller, and spent the last 12 years as finance director.
